PHOTOS: Hungary's first Dinosaur Park opens in Budapest mall rooftop

Real-life size dinosaurs are to conquer the rooftop of one of Budapest’s biggest malls. The mall is easily reachable from downtown, and is near the airport expressway. Therefore, it makes an excellent children’s programme for families visiting Budapest.

According to turizmus.com, Hungary’s first permanent dinosaur park opens in Budapest on 1 September. The exhibition will be hosted by the KÖKI Mall, located in the 10th district of Budapest. You can reach the mall with the blue metro line from Budapest’s downtown or by train since the Kőbánya-Kispest train (and metro) station is next to the mall. Furthermore, KÖKI Mall is near the airport expressway, so you can also get there by car.

The real-life-size dinosaurs were designed by palaeontologists. Visitors will be able to meet with 80 of these giant beasts on the rooftop of the KÖKI Mall. DinoPark KÖKI Budapest will be Hungary’s very first permanent dinosaur exhibition. Some dinosaurs will be both mobile and audible in the prehistoric environment.

There will be a paleontology-themed playground and a museum telling the history of the Earth with interactive replicas. The largest dinosaur will be the 25-metre-long Mamenchisaurus, a result of months-long work made in Plzeň, Chzechia. The dinosaurs were transported to Budapest with lorries and will welcome guests in a Mesozoic environment.

The operator of the park is the Czech West Media. The Budapest park will be their tenth location. They have additional ones in Czechia, Slovakia, and Spain. Jiri Machalek, the company’s founding owner, said they created their first park in Plzeň in 2003. They design and build all parks themselves without subcontractors.

Concerning the entrance tickets to the Budapest dinosaur park, luckily they will not break the bank. The adult entrance ticket will cost HUF 5,000 (EUR 13), while children between 3-15 years can enter for HUF 3,500 (EUR 9). Entrance is free until the age of 3. Furthermore, you may buy a family ticket (2 adults and 2 kids) for HUF 14,500 (EUR 38). With three kids, that will cost HUF 17,000 (EUR 45).

The local Kispest TV already made a report about the park, although it is in Hungarian:
