News Briefs: Hayes Verandah Concert rescheduled for Sept. 6

PORT CLINTON - The dinosaurs at African Safari Wildlife Park aren’t going extinct just yet. The park has extended Dinosaur Takeover by eight weeks due to popular demand, and the last day for guests to experience this temporary installation is now Monday, Oct. 30.

Dinosaur Takeover features more than 20 moving, roaring, life-sized creatures throughout the park’s Walk-Thru Safari. Highlights include raptors, triceratops, stegosaurus and a 40-foot-long T. rex.

“There’s something about dinosaurs that brings out the child in each of us, and Dinosaur Takeover takes you as close as you can get to these prehistoric beasts without travelling back in time,” said park director Kelsey Keller.

Dinosaur Takeover is included with general park admission. More information is available at africansafariwildlifepark.com/dinosaurs.

PUT-IN-BAY - Stone Lab, The Ohio State University’s island campus on Lake Erie, is opening its doors to the public during its annual Friends of Stone Lab Open House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9.Guests will be able to take a look behind the scenes at the important Lake Erie science going on at the lab, situated just across the harbor from Put-in-Bay. Free island tours give visitors a chance to peer down from Perry’s Lookout, where the British fleet was first spotted during the Battle of Lake Erie, an important fight during the War of 1812.Activities at the Open House also include talks and laboratory sessions, summer class information and tours of the South Bass Island Lighthouse (transportation not provided). Free transportation will be available from the Stone Lab Research Building on South Bass Island to Gibraltar Island. The last boat to Gibraltar Island leaves at 3:30 p.m., the last boat off Gibraltar Island leaves at 4 p.m.

FREMONT – The Verandah Concert featuring a duo of American Roots singers from Detroit that was rained out in July has been rescheduled for Sept. 6.

Robert Jones and Matt Watroba will play traditional and popular roots music during the concert, which begins at 7 p.m. An ice cream social begins at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is free. Please bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating on the lawn.

FREMONT - The Sunset Market and Downtown Block Party Event is slated for 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 . There will be vendors, live entertainment and a hog roast in the Brady Parking Lot.
